Galileo launched by Soyuz @ Kourou: a successful European collaboration

On 21 October 2011 the first ever Soyuz rocket lifted off from Kourou in French Guiana. It launched successfully the first two operational satellites of the EU's global navigation satellite system named Galileo.

Galileo will give Europe independence in satellite navigation, a sector that has become very important for its economy and the well-being of its citizens.
